Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know about visiting Dalmakdalmak

What kind of place is Dalmakdalmak?

Dalmakdalmak is a Korean bar (술집) in Insadong, Seoul, specializing in makgeolli — over 20 kinds — alongside handmade jeon (Korean savory pancakes) and bulgogi. It's a warm, lively place to experience authentic Korean drinking culture, open every day from 3 PM to midnight.

What is makgeolli?

Makgeolli (막걸리) is Korea's oldest and most traditional alcoholic beverage — a milky, slightly sweet, naturally sparkling rice wine with a gentle tang. It's typically 6–8% ABV and is the quintessential drink to pair with jeon in Korean bar culture. We pour more than 20 kinds.

What is jeon?

Jeon (전) refers to Korean savory pancakes — thin, crispy, pan-fried dishes made with various fillings like kimchi, seafood, potatoes, or green onions. They're one of Korea's most beloved comfort foods.

Is there an English menu?

Yes, we provide a full English menu with descriptions of every dish. Our staff can also help explain dishes and recommend pairings.

Is Dalmakdalmak good for foreign visitors?

Absolutely. We welcome international visitors and provide an English menu, clear dish descriptions, and helpful staff. Many of our guests are travelers exploring Insadong and the Anguk Station area.

Is Dalmakdalmak near Anguk Station?

Yes — we're about a 1-minute walk from Anguk Station Exit 6 (Line 3), just off Insadong 16-gil.

Can I walk in without a reservation?

Yes, walk-ins are always welcome. For weekend evenings or groups of 5 or more, we recommend calling ahead to reserve.

What should I order first?

Start with our signature bacon-cheese potato jeon and a bowl of makgeolli — the classic Korean bar pairing. If you like meat, add the soy bulgogi ssam.

Is Dalmakdalmak good for rainy days?

Rainy days are the best time to visit a Korean bar. There's a beloved Korean tradition of eating jeon and drinking makgeolli when it rains — the sound of rain and the sizzle of jeon create an unforgettable atmosphere.

Are there vegetarian-friendly options?

Yes — shredded potato jeon, corn cheese jeon, rolled omelette, and fried enoki mushrooms are vegetarian-friendly. Please let our staff know about any dietary preferences.

What are your opening hours?

We're open every day from 3 PM to midnight, with no regular closing day. For a quieter drink, come in the early evening; for the full Korean bar buzz, weekend nights are ideal.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept credit cards (Visa, Mastercard), Samsung Pay, Kakao Pay, ZeroPay, and cash (Korean Won).
